• Decide How Long You Plan to Stay in the Home – If you know you will not be living there very long, you should consider how the property will sell. Even if the home is a great buy, it might have elements that may not be desirable for other buyers, which could lead you to have a hard time selling it.
• Look at Other Homes – Check out other properties that are similar and see what they are selling, or have sold, for. If you have a real estate agent, check with him or her for other pricings. If you are home searching solo, look at online sites to aid you in your search.
• Do Not Buy Above Your Means – When house hunting, look at homes that you can afford without having to struggle to meet your mortgage payments. Buying above your means will just make things financially hard for you in the long run.
• Stop Waiting for the Right Time to Buy – There really is no right time to buy. You may be trying to wait for prices to go down, but like the stock market, there is a chance that prices may just go up instead.
• Do Not Base Decision on Appearance Alone – When shopping around for a home, remember that sellers will often present their home in the best light they possibly can so that they can make the sale.
